Yes, you read it right. There's a new piece of malware on the loose. And it’s called AVG Antivirus 2011. Now don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Rogue:Win32/FakeXPA, which has been distributed with different names according to Microsoft has come has AVG Antivirus 2011. And the developers are hoping to fool victims into believing that it is actually AVG. They have even gone off to the extent of borrowing the really popular security software’s logo.
FakeXPA keeps on saying that your computer has been infected by various malicious software. Then it prompts the user to ‘buy’ the full version of the software. It also messes up things and runs a fake web browser. It says stuff like ‘Internet Explorer Emergence Mode’. Ever heard of anything like that before? Me neither.
