There have been lots of stories of children making accidental in-app purchases (virtual goods in games, maybe) and racking up a huge amount on their parents' credit card bills. This has been happening not only on iOS devices but also on Android, and other platforms that support in-app purchases.Apple has decided to fix that.
Ths US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) was asked to investigate this problem.

Now, iOS in-app purchases require a password each time. So your child won't spend thousands of dollars buying virtual stuff inside games. You can hand them your iPad without fear.
