Google has announced that it has acquired the huge mobile productivity software maker Quickoffice and that it will use their products to make Google Apps better.
Quickoffice is an old player in this field. It has been making document editors and spreadsheet software for phones and later tablets since the days of Nokia's reign. Its products work well with a plethora of file formats very well, people say.
I think this move by Google is justified and indeed very good.
The Official Google Blog says,
"Today, consumers, businesses and schools use Google Apps to get stuff done from anywhere, with anyone and on any device. Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we'll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our Apps product suite."I hope they don't integrate Quickoffice only into their Google Apps suite that is mainly for businesses and schools and that they actually bring some awesome new features into Docs (for desktop and mobile) in order to win some new users over.
