Google's Nexus Tablet Details Leaked

With Google's I/O conference a few days away, Gizmodo Australia seem to have got their hands on a leaked spec sheet of the rumored Google Nexus tablet. According to the alleged leaks, the device will be a 7-inch tablet, a powerhouse but will have surprisingly low storage capacities.


Google has had its flagship Nexus-brand smartphones for a long time now. It released its Google-branded, but HTC-manufactured Nexus One in 2010, which turned out to be a great hit. Later, it came out with the Samsung-manufactured Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus. Nexus phones run pure Android. There are no manufacturer modifications, similar to Apple's products and Microsoft's Signature PCs.


There have been rumors for a while that it will release a Nexus-branded tablet. Giz Australia says that the Nexus tablet to be announced at the I/O conference will have the following features:

• It will be called Nexus 7 and will be manufactured by Asus.
• It will have a 1.3 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 1 GB RAM and a GeForce 12-core graphics processor.
• It will feature NFC, which will allow Google Wallet (probably in the US only) and Android Beam.
• It will have a 7-inch IPS display with a 178 degree viewing angle and a 1280x800 resolution.
• It will have a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera and a 9-hour battery life.

It will be available in an 8 GB version ($199) and a 16 GB version ($249). These are US prices. It's cheap, but isn't the storage capacity too less for most of us? The "training document" that Gizmodo got says that it will be the first device to run Android Jelly Bean.

I am doubtful if it will compete with the Apple iPad. Nexus products have been very popular, and this is an okay tablet in my opinion. I think it is a worthy Kindle Fire competitor.
